Mac Plastics has been making custom plastics for 40 years. What does that mean? We have a specialized workshop in Edmonton where our skilled technicians use machinery to heat sheets of various kinds of plastic to shape them into virtually anything. We can engrave your brand in any product, work with you to overcome a challenge that other products in the marketplace don’t quite address, and craft a unique piece of plastic to replace a damaged ATV windshield or fit an awkward corner.

During Covid we supplied the plastic barriers in many retail and grocery stores. We recently held a contest to see who could make the largest plastic dome – a product often used in custom display cases. We craft replacement windshields for boats, Ski-Doos, golf carts, and ATVs – carefully ensuring they fit even when the vehicle has shifted over years of use. We make shelving for awkward corners. When bee-keepers approached us about drips from condensation falling inside hives and killing bees, we designed a new roof insert that funnels water to the sides of the hives.

If you can dream it up, chances are we can make it for you.

Plastics Bring A Lot
To The Table

Plastics are great to work with. With a bit of heat, specialized machinery, and imagination our skilled technicians can craft pretty much any shape in our Edmonton workshop.

Weight

Plastic is easier to work with as it weighs 50% less than glass making it easier to maneuver, while maintaining a high-impact strength. For projects such where lifting or fitting the plastic to size is much easier to work with.

Strong

Plastics or acrylics are tough, making them ideal for windshields or railings. They are also great for outdoor signage, being able to withstand various harsh weather conditions such as heavy rain or extreme sunlight.

Clear or Coloured

Plastic sheets are available in clear, and several transparent and solid colors. Mac Plastics also carries Abrasion resistant and UV resistant sheets are a special order plastic.Applications include skylights, greenhouses, recreational wind shields, display cases, table top sign holders, and other custom designs.

Easy to bend

We have over 50 years experience in working with plastic to heat it up and put bends or curves into pieces.  If we don’t have the mold then we will work with you to build the mold to fit the custom design.

Unique Characteristics

At Mac, we stock a wide variety of plastics including acrylic, polycarbonate, ABS, puckboard, HDPE, UHMW, hollow tubing, and solid tubing. We’ll sell them by the sheet, as well as using them in our own manufacturing.

We can special order other types of plastic for uses in automotive, recreational equipment, electrical, fluid handling, material handling, medical, point of purchase displays, transportation, education, and custom design.

Polycarbonate

Polycarbonate is a highly durable and versatile plastic known for its impact resistance, temperature stability, and excellent optical properties. Available in both transparent and opaque sheets, it is widely used in applications due to its toughness and performance characteristics.

Acrylic

Also known as plexiglass or branch names like Plexiglas and Lucite, Acrylic is an ideal substitute for glass any time you need excellent clarity and strength. Of all plastics, acrylic provides the best clarity for an extended amount of time, great scratch resistance, and lack of yellowing. It also offers protection against UV damage, which is useful for applications like advertising displays or picture framing.

Abrasion resistant acrylic

All acrylic sheets are fairly abrasion resistant. This product is 40 times more resistant, without loss of optical clarity.

Acrylic mirror

This product is used for cosmetic displays, slat walls, dance studios, and even casinos. Other acrylic sheets available include colored acrylic, block acrylic, bullet resistant acrylic, and UV filtering acrylic. We’re always happy to special order any acrylic sheets.

HDPE

This product has unique tensile strength and rigidity, making it the choice for items such as hardhats and water bottles. HDPE has qualities making it particularly well suited for these applications – including residence to stains, moisture, and odour. HDPE is one of the most widely recycled plastics, so it can do the job you need and then be transformed into something new.

ABS

This is one of the most widely-used plastics on the market. It’s got great impact resistance, making it a good choice for heavy duty applications. ABS is available in a variety of finishes, thickness and colors.

UHMW

This is an extremely tough plastic with high abrasion and wear resistance. The versatility of this product makes it a popular material for countless industrial applications that require durability, low friction and chemical resistance. This product comes in a variety of thicknesses.

Frequently Asked Questions

My plastic has cracked. What can I do?
Drill a 1/16th hole at the end of the crack, which will stop it from spreading. That will allow you to plug the hole with clear silicone or the time needed to source a new piece.
How do I clean plastic products in my home or business?
Some dish soap in warm water is your best bet. Avoid any harsh cleaners, especially any with alcohol in them, which can cause micro cracks that grow over time.
My plastic display case got scratched. Is there I can do to fix it?
There are some specialized chemicals available that can buff out scratches – they’re available at our location in Edmonton. You can also try a soft buffing wheel on a drill.
I’m considering options for shelving. Is plastic breakable, compared to wood, glass, or metal?
It really depends on the thickness of the plastic and how the shelves are constructed. Plastic is about as strong as wood of the same thickness and six times stronger than standard glass. Metal is, of course, stronger. Like any material, plastic shelves need to be properly built with supports.
